Picture the Past
Teaming up with the Poquoson Museum and the Poquoson Historical Commission, the library is creating a digital archive of historic photos for the public to enjoy. Labor Day Closing
Monday, September 6th

The Library will be closed Monday, September 6th in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, September 7th at 10:00 AM.
New Online Databases
The library has some new online databases that give you access to information from your home computer even when the library is closed. Just click the Online Databases link at the top right of the Library's website. Make sure you check out the Home & Garden collection.
Old Age...It's Not for Sissies
PPL has been designated as a SeniorNavigator Center to provide resources for health and aging information. Join us for the following programs designed specifically for seniors, caregivers, adults with disabilities, and their families.

SeniorNavigator Online
Monday, Sep 27th, 7:00 to 8:30 PM

Gerontologist Kim Van Eck will demonstrate SeniorNavigator, Virginia's "One-Stop-Resource" designed to answer questions about health, housing concerns, long-term care, legal issues, etc.

Healthy Aging
Friday, Oct 1st, 10:30 AM to Noon

Peggy Croke, Sentara Living Coordinator, will define healthy aging and discuss the myths of aging, techniques to improve your health, and the free programs Sentara offers the public.

Planning for the Long Run
Thursday, Oct 14th, 10:30 AM to Noon

Donna O'Hara and attorney Elizabeth Bircher from Susan I. Jean & Associates will discuss estate planning and long-term care.

New Database
NetLibrary


Now connect to over 16,000 electronic books viewable on your computer through NetLibrary.

You must set up a free account at the library first and then you will be able to access this collection from home.

Orson Scott Card @ your library
Orson Scott Card, the best-selling author of "Ender's Game", will speak at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28th, at Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center for the Arts. Best known for his science fiction novels, Card also writes contemporary fiction, biblical novels, the American frontier fantasy series "The Tales of Alvin Maker", poetry, plays and scripts.

Free tickets for the author talk, question-and-answer session and book signing are available beginning Sept. 28th at the sponsoring libraries of the Virginia Peninsula Literary Consortium. Tickets will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to two per person while supplies last.

This cultural event is sponsored by the Virginia Peninsula Literacy Consortium, which consists of 7 public and academic libraries on the Virginia peninsula.
