20th Annual Used Book Sale

Lion Shop and Share
Attention Food Lion Shoppers! The Friends of the Poquoson Public Library are now registered as one of the organizations for Food Lion’s "Lion Shop and Share" program. Simply register your MVP Card and select the Friends as your preferred organization. Every time you swipe your MVP card Food Lion will donate a percentage of your purchase to the Friends. Take 1 or 2 minutes and register now. Then tell all your friends and neighbors!

Who are the Friends?

Friends of the Library is a non-profit group that exists to focus public attention on libraries, stimulate the use of the library's services and facilities, and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library. Through various fund-raising projects, the Friends donated $11,065 to the library last year for programming and computer equipment.

Friends of the Poquoson Public Library was awarded the 2005 Friends of the Library Award by the Virginia Library Association for their continued support for the library and the community. Be a member of this award-winning organization. For more information, email ppl_friends@yahoo.com.

  • Friends annual scholarship: open to Poquoson High School seniors who have
  • Annual Essay Contest for school age children (K-12)
  • Three book sales each year: an annual book sale in April, a paperback book sale at the Poquoson Seafood Festival in October, and an ongoing "Books a la Carte" book sale at the library. There is a members only preview night at the Annual Book Sale.
  • Partnership with Langley Federal Credit Union- members of the Friends are eligible for membership at the Langley Federal Credit Union
  • Sponsorship of Summer Reading Programs, National Library Week programs, Battle of the Books, Family Resource Collection, "Read to Me" kits and many other library activities
  • Publishes the Bookworm, a quarterly newsletter
  • Book Discussion Group
  • Distributes refrigerator magnets with library hours, address and phone number
