Bringing people and information together through reading, technology, award-winning programs and an inviting facility.
FY 2007 was an exciting year filled with challenges, growth, and accomplishments. City residents continued to demonstrate their interest in, and support of, the library. Statistics show that during the year, a citizen visited the library an average of 11 times and checked out an average of 16.7 items. In FY 2006, the average of all Virginia Public Libraries was 3.93 library visits and 5.2 items checked out per patron. We are truly a community of readers.
During the year, the computer operating system was upgraded to provide easier access to resources and services. The library was awarded four program grants to initiate new services and expand old ones. PPL also partnered with other Peninsula libraries and colleges in the Big Read Program in May and the Meet the Author event at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in September. In April, the library was presented with three 2007 Virginia Public Library Director Association’s Service Awards. They are: Outstanding Public Relations Project award, Outstanding Adult Program award, and Outstanding Children’s Program award.
Due to the dedicated staff, a committed Library Advisory Board, an active Friends of the Library, a supportive City Council, and an involved community that believes libraries are important, we had another successful year.
